Session Description for Back to the Basics... and More

- File Management

- Using Help (available in Word, Excel, GroupWise, etc.) and Google Searching

- Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, and GroupWise Basics

How much time do you spend looking for a document that you created months or even years ago? If you need some helpful ideas on how to organize your files and some time to actually “get ‘er done,” this session is for you! I’m not in my classroom in front of my computer; can I still access my files?  Yes!  Find out how in this session.  Some basic features of Microsoft Office products (Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, etc.) and GroupWise will be discussed.  Find out how to use “Help” and “Google” to find answers to your questions.

This session will have some instructor-led time with the majority of time being used for self-paced research, learning, and project creation. Please come to your session with a project in mind. Have some ideas of what you want your end product to look like, what content you want, etc.

What to Bring

  1. Paper and pen/pencil.
  2. Ideas of a project or lesson you may want to create that will incorporate some of the topics discussed in this session.
  3. Any questions you may have on performing a basic task in word, Publisher, PowerPoint, or GroupWise.
  4. A willingness to learn and share.

During the Training

  1. Make sure you log in as yourself on the lab computer. Do not stay logged in as a student.  Logging in as yourself will ensure that you have access to all your files in your G:\drive.
  2. If you don't see a program icon on the Desktop, you may find the program you are looking for by going to the Start menu > All Programs and looking in the list there.
